The stores and mortuary new build at Hammersmith Hospital comprised the movement of a number of existing facilities to a relatively tight site in the middle of the Campus. With existing buildings on three sides, the design has a number of specific relationships around its external envelope, including an existing basement that goes under the building, entrances on 3 levels from the surrounding buildings including a number of main hospital corridors and walkways. This involved significant detailing and co-ordination challenges with existing buildings of different ages varying from original Victorian hospital structures to 1970’s additions.
