Many of the patrons staying at this 18th century hotel arrive by coach. As there was a limited amount of space for them to wait at reception it was decided to erect a new external lobby. With the façade to the grade II Georgian building being unspoit English Heritage requested that the lobby be as discrete as possible. The solution was a completely glass envelope through which the building could still be seen.
