The Cedar Cottage design utilizes the unique qualities of a secluded sloping woodland site in Blackheath, to generate a series of varied internal and external spaces that maximize the potential of the site. Large floor to ceiling windows and a number of doors in the timber cladding, allow the garden and natural qualities of the surrounding woodlands to be fully appreciated from the inside. The building has a high level of insulation as well as triple glazing throughout. This gives a B energy rating and contributes to the building’s Code 4, sustainability rating. The building interacts with the site to form upper and lower garden spaces. Between these a series of terraces and steps provide external seating areas.
